Structural stability of open vortex beams

Normally, intensity patterns of vortex beams are closed rings such as Laguerre–Gaussian and Bessel–Gaussian beams. Recent studies showed that the with open ring structures, namely, (OVBs), have non-trivial orbital angular momentum (OAM) spectra optical forces can be employed in many applications metrology quantum information. However, structural stability OVBs, including topological charge conservation invariance, has not been studied yet. Here, we theoretically propose a generalized model using both geometrical ray-like trajectories coherent wave-packets, OVBs is validated by envelope ray bundles. Moreover, experimentally demonstrated generated partial fork-grating (PFG). Our study reveals characteristics which lays foundation for OVB's potential manipulation, metrology, etc.

We apply these phase masks for the generation of intense femtosecond optical vortices.
